Courses being taught in 2024/2025 academic year: CLAS 2233 Scientific Terminology (open-entry through Open Acadia)
About me: I'm a proud alumna of the Department of History and Classics, and a past Consul (president) of the Acadia Classics Society. I'm also a first-generation academic and the first person in my family to complete a PhD. I went to university vaguely planning a career in a medical field and took Latin as a language elective in my first year at Acadia - where I was immediately captivated by being able to read the words and ideas of people who lived 2000+ years ago. After completing a BA with Honours in Latin, I continued my studies with an MA (Classics) at the University of Leeds and a PhD (Classics) at the University of Edinburgh, studying Latin literature and Roman political history with a focus on Cicero and the late Roman Republic. Now I combine my interests in ancient language/history and science through teaching Scientific Terminology, and by researching medical metaphor in ancient oratory, and historical descriptions of allergic conditions.
